Dental Microscope

The clinical application of the microscope is a revolutionary innovation in modern dentistry. The microscope made its first appearance in medical specialties, such as Ophthalmology, ENT, micro- and neurosurgery etc.Only in recent years the microscope has appeared in the hands of some pioneering dentists inUSA and Europe.The great advantage of this instrument is that we can observe details that are actually invisible with the bare eye. This is of paramount importance if we strive for precision in our dental services! The dental microscope, as every other microscope, is made of an array of lenses, which magnify the object of observation. In dentistry we use 25 x magnification.

The dental microscope is bound to operate under unfavorable conditions. It needs to bypass the visual obstacle of the various dental instruments and headlights and to focus on a limited area, such as the oral cavity, and to execute a series of highly specialized functions.



 What is so special about the dental microscope?

The dental microscope needs to:

  • be capable to stretch to a long distance and remain steady. In order to achieves this, the base of the instrument has to be very robust, as well as the rest of the mechanisms.
  • easily focus on the operation field. We should not forget that our hands should be busy working on the patient, not constantly adjusting the microscope.
  • Create a 3D image so that we can sense the depth of the image
  • Have adjustable light intensity as well as the color of the light beam, because some dental materials are polymerizing ( are getting hard through a specific light frequency)
  • Be connected to a computer, in order to shoot pictures, video spots and digitally modify the taken photographs.

The dental microscope enables us to observe details, which are in front of our eyes, but we can not discern them with the naked eye.

The implementation of the microscope in dentistry is worldwide, and especially in Greece in a pioneering stage. Just think of the fact that less than 1% of the dentists in USA use the microscope.

For us it is a great pleasure to know that our dental office is one of the few centers in the world, where microdentistry is integrated in a wide spectrum of specialties, such as aesthetic dentistry, endodontics, diagnosis, periodontology and implantology.

We may be today pioneers in this new exciting field, however we sense that microscope is the direction of the future and that one day the microscope will become a valuable aid for every dentist.  This is also the reason why we are founding members of the Hellenic Society of Microscopic Dentistry.

Intraoral Camera

The Intra oral camera is a break through in modern dentistry in the recognition and diagnosis of small defects, especially in the back and hardly visible areas of the mouth.   It has the size of a big pen with a micro-camera at the tip, which sends the image to the computer with infra- red waves (just like satellites send pictures back to the earth).

The small size and  versatility of the intraoral micro-camera enables us to discover and magnify problems located in difficult areas of the mouth.  We can also store the initial image and compare it at a later point of time for possible changes.

Computer Imaging

Computer Imaging is a revolutionary innovation of aesthetic and reconstructive dentistry. It is the ideal method for everyone who is considering an aesthetic change of the smile and would like to know in advance, how this change will affect the appearance of the entire face. Using a special camera we generate a digital image of the smile, which can be further analyzed in the computer.

Using special software we can point out the problematic areas and plan the necessary therapeutic modifications.
With Computer Imaging you can see on the monitor of the computer you future smile, before even having started the treatment!
We can also make a print-out of that picture, which you can show to your family and friends and ask for their opinion about you future smile.

Digital Periodontal Charting

The Digital Periodontal Charting is the latest achievement in the diagnosis and monitoring of the periodontal disease.Using a special instrument we take measurements of the gums around every tooth and transfer the data into the computer. A specially designed software makes a graphic presentation of the  findings and highlights the areas that will require special  treatment.
After the treatment, in the course of monitoring periodontal disease, we can also compare the measurements of a specific tooth at different points of time. This enables us to discover and treat a possible remission of the disease at an early stage and to maintain the health and integrity of the mouth for ever.

Implant Restoration using Electronic Devices

Dental Implants are α revolutionary innovation of modern dentistry in the rehabilitation of the partially or fully edentulous mouth.
The latest electρonic devices help us perform every step of the treatment with maximum control and safety.

In our office we routinely use the Electronic Torque Control Device, which helps us reach at the time of implant placement a maximum stability.
Also during the  final prosthetic reconstruction, the Electronic Torque Control Device enables us to fabricate the restoration in the most conservative way, by  protecting the implant components from excessive force application.

Digital Radiography

The latest development in imaging technology is digital radiography.

This system requires a modern computer, the specialized software, as well as the latest technology of X-ray machines. The big advantage of digital X-ray is that minimal radiation is required compared to older techniques.
Instead of classical X-rays, we use an electronic sensor that is connected to the computer. At the touch of a button the dental x-ray is automatically displayed on the computer screen. Then, with the help of a specialized program, we can process the image, magnify  or change the brightness and thus detect  many hidden information, which in a conventional X-ray is very difficult to detect.

The advantages are obvious:
  1. Much shorter time (no precious minutes from treatment time for developing)
  2. Reduced radiation
  3. More information in the image, which means better and more accurate diagnosis.

The doctor may plan the treatment much more carefully, since he has the patient’s image in front of him. And, of course, during treatment, we can control every step of the treatment  much better, especially when see under  magnification.


Photos are also used for Computer Imaging.An extra bonus: at the end of treatment, you can have photos from before and after treatment for your file.
